Different colors can give people different aesthetic experiences. Some colors make people's eyes light up, while others make people feel disgusted. So, what secrets does color actually have? In order to design a UI that doesn't offend people, what do we at least need to understand?

In long-term life practice, various colors in nature will leave certain impressions in people's minds, producing different psychological feelings. Different colors give people different feelings. Psychologists have conducted many experiments on the psychological feelings of colors. They found that in a red environment, people's pulse will accelerate, blood pressure will increase, and emotions will be excited. In a blue environment, the pulse will slow down, and emotions will be relatively calm.

Cool colors and warm colors are physical classifications of colors based on psychological illusions. The physical impression of colors is roughly produced by two color systems: warm and cool. Red light and yellow light have a warm feeling, so using red and yellow also gives a warm feeling. On the contrary, purple light and blue light, etc., have a cold feeling, so using them gives people a cool feeling. Below we list the symbolism of some colors.

  1. Yellow: This color is formed by mixing strongly stimulating red light and fresh, tranquil green light in equal amounts, containing almost no blue light component. So it gives people a distinct feeling. Whenever you see this color, it makes people think of the golden autumn season, giving a joyful and happy atmosphere.
  2. Orange: Compared with yellow, it also contains red and green light, but the proportion of more red and less green makes excitement prevail over freshness, giving people a gorgeous and happy feeling. Since orange and yellow tones are relatively close, when people see this color, they will also think of autumn, but the feeling of warmth is more distinct.
  3. Red: As a primary color, although red is not pure in color composition, it can make people feel energized. It is a magnificent spiritual embodiment that can give people feelings of anger, enthusiasm, and vitality. When we use red to express emotions and create atmosphere, we need to appropriately handle the relationship between red and other colors to vividly express the symbolic tendency of colors.
  4. Green: Located between cool and warm colors, it gives a feeling of harmony, tranquility, health, and safety. When paired with golden yellow and pale white, it creates an elegant and comfortable atmosphere. When green blends with yellow, it makes people think of the scene of spring breeze warming the earth and all things reviving.
  5. Blue: Also a primary color, mainly affected by red light, so it has certain connections with purple in terms of feeling and symbolic meaning. As a color representing eternity, vastness, coolness, and freshness, when mixed with white, it can reflect a soft, elegant, and romantic atmosphere, giving people a feeling of calmness and rationality.
  6. Purple: Gives a feeling of gloominess, coldness, and nobility. However, if it is a light purple containing a large amount of white components, it will make people think of rich lilacs.
  7. Black: Has a feeling of depth, mystery, silence, sorrow, and depression.
  8. White: When seeing white, it makes people think of pure white snow, forming a symbol of purity. In connection with human consciousness, it also symbolizes simplicity and honesty. It can give people a feeling of whiteness, brightness, innocence, and cleanliness.
  9. Gray: Gives people a feeling of compromise, ordinariness, gentleness, modesty, neutrality, and elegance.
