29 Doing AI is Like Raising a Child This is a very real feeling I've had over my three years of doing AI. Because while I've been doing AI, I've indeed also been raising a child; doing these two things simultaneously is very interesting. Point One: Without teaching and instructing, AI will just wing it. AI is general intelligence. If I want it to help me do anything, I basically have to teach it—tell it my methods, experience, problems, goals, and requirements so it can produce what I want. From this perspective, using AI is like teaching a child: if you don't teach and instruct, AI will just wing it; if you don't teach a child, the child will act on their own ideas, and the results will be unpredictable. Point Two: General AI is like a blank slate, just like a child. It has its own knowledge, but you can weave a clever story to make it listen to you.
