This is the third and final part of the AI Anxiety Trilogy. The first part was about management, the second about individuals, and this one discusses industry anxiety—the industry I'm referring to is the internet industry.
The internet industry took off in 2000, and 25 years have passed since then. AI is very likely to completely overturn this industry because AI has fundamentally changed the paradigm of software development, transforming it from a labor-intensive job into a much less labor-intensive one. This is the biggest reason why everyone in the internet industry has felt anxious in the past two to three years.
To put it bluntly, anxiety stems from the fear of unemployment. Layoffs mean you can find another job, but if the industry is gone, you have to change careers, which is the most fundamental anxiety.
