88 Should You Read Books to Learn Management
Trusting books completely is worse than having no books
Even so, books should still be read
The reason is like learning technology, writing small toys yourself, learning by doing, learning as you use, of course it's enough, no big problem in short term
But knowledge learned this way is very scattered, not systematic, leading to relatively slow improvement
Can't see the full picture, don't know your progress in mastery, and your level of understanding
Like drawing a tree, learning by doing is only drawing leaves, when there are many leaves they connect into branches, given time, can also draw a tree
But don't know how many branches are missing under the leaves, even the trunk might be missing limbs, can't tell from outside
At this point you enter improvement bottleneck, know a bit about every technical detail, but still often encounter knowledge blind spots, still often adding leaves and branches, this is wrong
